Our Newest Beauty Box Supports The Regent Park Project
Our second Beauty Box is available now, and we're so excited to share that $30 from each box goes to support The Regent Park Project. It's an incredible organization that empowers youth in Regent Park and beyond to gain skills and experience in the film industry. Learn more below!
The Regent Park Project is a hands-on film making project run by Kick Start Arts. The project is available to young people ages 13-27 and takes participants through the process of creating a web series from start to finish. Through mentorship and skill development, the participants explore stories meaningful to them, drawn from their personal "lived experiences".
The youth involved receive free training in acting, writing, and production, and have the opportunity to participate in multiple professional opportunities and workshops from within the industry. Throughout the process, there are opportunities to learn from experts, visit professional sets, workshop ideas with industry leaders, access internships, and start to work professionally.
Artistic director of the project, Sheena D. Robertson notes, “Art plays an intrinsic role in identity formation, both personal and social, and can be a powerful tool for social justice. By collaborating and creating with others whose backgrounds are different than their own and by sharing their stories, the emerging artists involved are experiencing an opportunity for dialogue and connection with each other and the world. Just as important as the professional skills gained, our youth have learned a lot about one another, and what it means to be a citizen-artist in our diverse country.”
The program has real and lasting results, including success for many participants that have gone on to be represented by agents, to work as professional actors and producers, and to find success as writing and directing.
