Crawford Street Skincare
Gaelyne Leslie created this lovely skin care line from her home on Crawford Street in Toronto. After a severe allergic reaction to a commercial brand of face moisturizer, she began to research the long list of ingredients in skin care. That experience left her horrified, and so she began to experiment with natural ingredients. She eventually created a 100 percent natural moisturizer that worked. Her friends began to notice her glowing complexion and put orders in for their own jar. Gaelyne continued to experiment in her kitchen and soon had a small line of handcrafted products.
A gorgeous Canadian makeup line, Fitglow was founded by Anna Buss, a lifelong lover of fitness and healthy living. FitGlow Beauty products are lab and life tested to go from the office to hot yoga, boot camp, hiking, or whatever activity you get up to. The cruelty free products use whole food-based formulas, and are infused with organic extracts, to protect skin and keep it glowing throughout the day.
Graydon Clinical Luxury
Graydon Moffat began creating her line of products in her kitchen after being inspired by native plants in her grandmother’s garden. Now in a cutting edge laboratory, this Toronto-based company incorporates clinical research on bioactive ingredients into the formulations, and the gluten free line is made in small batches and contains tons of vitamins and minerals. Whenever possible, Graydon sources plant-based ingredients from Canadian growers.
Leaves of Trees
Founded by Dr. Roohi Qureshi, Leaves of Trees is another Toronto-based company rocking the skincare game, producing high quality products using organic and fair trade sources, with an emphasis on unrefined argan oil, sourced from a women’s cooperative in Morocco. This oil is full of antioxidants and moisturizes without a greasy feel. Handmade in small batches with all natural products, Leaves of Trees is committed to conducting an ethical business and is self-described as “modern apothecary with a pinch of Morocco and other exotic flavours.”
Living Libations founder Nadine Artemis believes that flowers and botanicals offer the body greater healing and invigorating properties than any of their synthetic counterparts. Offering organic, botanical solutions, both Nadine and her partner Ron strive to make natural beauty solutions accessible. They are dedicated to creating ethically-conscious products that offer an alternative to commercial products and concepts of health.
Sappho New Paradigm
Emmy-nominated makeup artist JoAnn Fowler discovered the world of green beauty through her work on The L Word. After actors Mia Kirshner and Jennifer Beals expressed concern about the harmful ingredients in commercial makeup, JoAnn began to research cosmetic safety. This eventually lead her to start her own makeup line. Sappho aims to bridge the gap between natural and fashionable while maintaining 100% transparency of ingredients. Above all, Sappho Cosmetics values respect, and promotes an authentic and age-inclusive perspective on beauty.
