The Benefits of Beautiful Food In and On Your Body
Guest post by Angélique Shearer-Kudel
While I’ve been passionate about green beauty for close to ten years, it wasn’t until last year that I decided to completely embrace a plant-based lifestyle. It was one of the best choices I have ever made not only for my health and the animals, but also for my skin! Since changing to a plant-based diet, my irritable acne-prone skin finally cleared. I never thought I’d see the day! Hippocrates once said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” I believe that food, when chosen correctly, is a form of medicine. It helps keep us healthy by providing the nutrients our body needs. With that being said, here are three foods I can’t live without and the incredible affects they have on the body both internally and externally!
Fruits are a staple part of my diet with my favourite being super sweet and delicious mangoes. This vibrant fruit reminds me of when I lived in sunny Florida, where I’d fill up on some of the most luscious produce in the world. Mangoes aren’t just tasty; they also have their share of health benefits. They contain vitamin C, which helps keep the immune system strong, as well as vitamin A, an essential vitamin for eye health. La Bella Figura’s Rainforest Hydration Treatment contains wild-harvested mango seed butter. This luxurious ingredient contains the same vitamins as its fruit counterpart, such as vitamin C. When applied topically, it keeps the skin looking youthful by promoting the production of collagen. Mango seed butter also contains fatty acids that moisturize and nourish the skin. Isn’t it amazing how one fruit can do so much good? Another fruit that provides great benefits is the fig.
I remember eating fresh figs for the first time while visiting family in the South of France. With their purple skin and slightly peculiar shape, I had no idea of the sweet goodness that lied inside. Figs are incredibly delicious and equally healthy. They are high in soluble fibre, which helps lower blood cholesterol and maintain healthy blood glucose levels. Fig seed oil can be obtained from the seeds of this beautiful fruit through the process of cold pressing. La Bella Figura offers pure Barbary Fig Seed Oil, which is significantly richer in vitamin E than argan oil. This vitamin works to quench dry skin and promote skin cell turnover. It also contains betalains, compounds that have antioxidant properties. I think I may have just written my way into falling in love with this product, especially since I have a deep appreciation for short ingredient lists!
Avocadoes are another one of my favourite foods. They are such a beautiful shade of pale green and their unique rich and creamy taste is unlike any other fruit. I often bring an avocado to work for lunch along with a giant bowl of orange slices, pineapple, grapes, kiwi and banana. It makes me feel as though I’m always on vacation! Avocados are packed with nutrients including potassium and B vitamins. They are also high in protein in comparison to most fruits. B vitamins and protein also work wonders in nourishing and strengthening our hair, which is why avocado oil can be found in La Bella Figura’s Bohemia Verde Hair Elixir. This beautiful oil also tames frizz and enhances shine.
There are many amazing benefits to a plant-based diet, which is why it’s no surprise that fruits and vegetables recently moved to top priority in Canada’s Food Guide. These beauties nourish and energize us as well as keep our skin and hair looking fabulous! What’s not to love?
